While responding to a check on welfare, the HELP team assisted a patrol unit with a dog that had run onto Highway 37 and was nearly hit. The dog rushed back to a dubious-looking property that seemed to be home to many animals and no owners in sight.
HELP contacted the renter of the property, Shelly, who informed HELP she had just moved in yesterday, had no power in the trailer, and had no running water. Shelly also had 9 horses who did not have any water to drink.
HELP was able to secure buckets of fresh water for the horses with assistance from the Edmonton Police Service’s Northeast Branch.
HELP also and provided two boxes of food to support Shelly, as she was prioritizing spending her money on feeding her animals instead of herself.
