While doing proactive patrolling, HELP was approached by Mary, who was seeking assistance fleeing from her abusive partner. Mary was in search of a domestic violence shelter that could also accommodate her teenage daughter and dog.
Mary had also been recently robbed and had faced difficulties replacing her ID and bank card.
The HELP team was able to provide Mary with information on the Navigation Centre to assist with ID replacement as well as information on an emergency shelter, Jessie’s House in Morinville which allows both dependents and pets.
A HELP Navigator also supported Mary in applying for the Escaping Abuse Benefit through the Government of Alberta.
Lastly, a safety plan was developed to ensure Mary’s wellbeing until she was able to safely leave.
