HELP responded to a mental health call where David’s mother contacted the Edmonton Police Service due to her son’s drug use causing concerning behaviors.
David has had a history of drug use for the past few years and has struggled to get appropriate support, as recovery programs have been full or have had long wait times.
At this point in time, David and his mother felt they had exhausted all their supportive resources.
With the previous loss of a child, David’s mother was terrified of losing another one.
Though David’s mother wanted more security through the means of a mental health apprehension for her son’s safety, access 24/7 clinicians felt there was insufficient grounds.
Instead, HELP was able to refer David to the George Spady detox program, as well as secure a bed for him at a Hope Mission facility.
A few weeks later, the HELP Navigator that supported David received an email relaying a message from David’s mom expressing her deepest joy and gratitude for the comfort and guidance from the HELP team.
After a history of being turned away from several detox facilities, David has successfully completed a month at the George Spady detox program and has been accepted into the Green Manor recovery program.
The HELP team that responded to the initial mental health call was able to meet with David and was amazed to see his transformation within just one month.
