Tammy* has been receiving support from the HELP program since May and has been linked with detox services for an extended period. However, each time Tammy is left without comprehensive support, she ends up returning to detox with additional charges and pending court dates. This cycle complicates her acceptance into treatment programs, hindering any progress she makes toward recovery.
Many treatment programs require prospective clients to resolve all legal matters before beginning treatment. While this requirement seems reasonable, court proceedings often extend over months or even years due to courtroom availability, trial scheduling, and legal processes.
Tammy was referred to the HELP team by the social work team with the hope that they would assist her with legal issues and provide access to consistent medical care to address her physical and mental health challenges, as well as help her achieve financial stability.
With the team's support ,Tammy successfully completed detox and is currently residing with family while receiving medical care and attending addiction meetings. Recently, Tammy had a court date. On her way to the courthouse, her shoe broke. Without hesitation, her navigator offered Tammy her own shoes to ensure she arrived on time. Tammy made it to the courtroom punctually and was able to resolve one legal matter with her lawyer.
She expressed profound gratitude and intends to pay the kindness forward by donating some of her clothing in the future. The HELP team remains committed to supporting Tammy, eagerly anticipating her continued progress.
