Edmonton police officers responded to a “trouble with person” call at the Sawridge Inn on Gateway Boulevard. Anne*, 35-year-old female, was refusing to leave the hotel. Her Band had paid for a room for her but had refused to extend her stay further. The officers talked with Anne about available resources. They encouraged her to apply for income support and get herself set up with her own place so she could feel empowered and take care of herself. Police brought her to the Navigation Centre. She received a new ID and was put on the list for income support and the housing. Anne was given a bed and safe place to stay at the Karis Women’s Shelter.
