John's Story

“I was in a place that was very dark,” John says of his time in prison. When he was released, he had to face the fact he was alone. His mother and his wife, the two most important people in his life, had died while he was incarcerated.  John had no one to turn to for help and support. “His life was on the line. He was being released, in my opinion, into failure,” says Chantelle, a HELP team lead with the Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society. Chantelle and the HELP team became John’s lifeline at a time of profound personal tragedy. “Just to have somebody to understand what you’re going through.  It’s everything!” John says.
