Vulnerable community members are often at the mercy of the elements. Edmonton’s recent heat wave is a case in point.
Hope Mission’s emergency response team was on the lookout for houseless individuals in need of assistance. When the team first came across Stacey, she was sunburned, disorientated, and facing severe heat stroke.
“Her temperature was through the roof,” said Luke, a paramedic who works with the emergency response team.
Luke and the rest of the team were able to quickly get Stacey inside to safety where she could cool down, drink some cold water, and get the care she urgently needed.
“Our paramedic team and nursing staff were able to assess and treat Stacey — which saved her from needing to go to the hospital. I saw her the next morning and she’s now doing great,” Luke said.
